Aleksanterinkadun jouluvalot, Stockmannin satumainen näyteikkuna, BM:n valtava joulukuusi… On olemassa tiettyjä merkkejä, jotka tuovat itse kullekin jouluisen mielen. Aleksanterinkadulla tarvitaan varmasti nostureita valojen ripustamiseen, Stockmannin näyteikkunassa häärätään kenties yön pimeinä tunteina tai verhon takana, mutta miten ihmeessä saadaan kymmenen metriä korkea kuusi kuljetettua BM:n pyöröovista?
Asiaa lähdettiin selvittämään vahtimestareilta.
BM:n aulan joulukuusi juontaa juurensa pitkälle historiaan: se on komeillut Raviolin edessä rakennuksen valmistumisen alusta asti eli noin 15 vuotta. Kuusi on 5 metriä korkea, ja se ostetaan Metsäylioppilaiden kuusikaupasta, jolla onkin yli sadan vuoden kokemus kuusikaupanteosta. Hienoa opiskelijoiden tukemista myös tällä saralla Biomedicumilta! Koristelusta vastaa BM:n huoltotiimi, joka asettaa kynttilät kuuseen.
Vuosien varrella kuusen kanssa on käynyt yhtä sun toista kommellusta. Kerran valtava kuusi on kaatunut kuusen jalan ruostumisen vuoksi. Tämän saattavatkin ainakin vanhimmat oppilaat muistaa. Huhu kertoo jonkun kiljaisseen “Kuusi kaatuu!” keskellä Raviolin puolenpäivän lounasruuhkaa. Joinain vuosina kuusen kastelu on unohtunut, ja sen neulaset ovat tippuneet ennen aikojaan.
Entä miten kuusi tuodaan paikalleen? Vastaus löytyy maan alta, nimittäin parkkihallista. Kuusi tuodaan autolla parkkihalliin, jonka aulan kautta se tuodaan kerroksen ylöspäin. Mahtaa olla kantamista.
