Alfojen arkinen ruokapöytäkeskustelu on ensimmäisten lääkiskuukausiemme aikana sivuuttanut hämmentävän usein erästä mielenkiintoista ilmiötä: Terveystieteiden keskuskirjaston (Terkon) saniteettitilojen valinnaisia sinivaloja. Kuka nyt haluaisi kusta sinisessä valaistuksessa, kun vaihtoehtona on hehkulampun lempeä loiste? Naissukupuolen edustajina ihmettelimme tätä kysymystä, sillä emme ole kiinnittäneet huomiota kyseiseen ilmiöön Terkon käymälöissä asioidessamme. Tästä innostuneena lähdimme kiukkuisia kirjastotätejä uhmaten selvittämään tätä useiden opiskelijoiden mieltä askarruttavaa kysymystä ja saimme kuin saimmekin lopulta vastauksen.
Käynnistimme seikkailumme käymällä tarkasti läpi kaikki keskuskirjaston Hotelli Helpotukset. Aloitimme yläkerran invaveeseistä ja siirryimme järjestelmällisesti kohti alakertaa. Heti ensimmäiset mukavuuslaitokset tuottivat tulosta, sillä huomasimme, että tämä mahtava värikirjon valinnaisuus on olemassa vain miessukupuolelle suunnatuissa pikkuloissa. Sekavessastakin tämä valinnanvapaus on riistetty.
Alakerran miehisessä vesiklosetissa meitä puolestaan odotti useita aisteja stimuloiva, karmaiseva yllätys. Miehet, vetäkää ne munuaistenne kitkeränhajuiset tuotokset alas sieltä pöntöstä!
Järkytyksestä toivuttuamme suuntasimme kohti alakerran infopistettä ja hyökkäsimme lukuisine kysymyksinemme pahaa-aavistamattomien virkailijoiden kimppuun. Keskustelumme yhden kirjastotädin kanssa herätti niin paljon mielenkiintoa, että lopulta kaikki Terveystieteiden keskuskirjaston työntekijät saapuivat aivoriiheen pohtimaan asiaa. Selvisi, että valot on asennettu miesten vesikäymälöihin vuosien 2008-09 aikana sieltä löytyneiden käytettyjen neulojen myötä. Feminiinisissä puuterointihuoneissa ei kyseistä ongelmaa ole esiintynyt, sen tähden siellä ei sinivaloja ole.
Kyseenalaistimme myös miestenhuoneiden värimaailman valinnanvapauden. Vastaukseksi saimme valojen olevan lähinnä merkki siitä, että ongelma on havaittu ja se on hoidossa.
